Thanks for expressing interest in joining the Edmonton Kendo Club! We recently restarted our practices last month and are nailing down the last details for admitting new students. Our club websites are still showing some out-of-date information (which we hope to change very soon); in the meantime please consider this document as the latest. If you still have questions, feel free to reply to contact us through the website or visit our non-profit association Facebook page.
Practice Dates and Times
New students are welcome to attend practices at the following times:
These classes are listed on our website calendar; check it regularly to see if any individual classes are cancelled.
You will be practicing as part of Kendo Group A. We have split the club into two large groups of intermixed ranks for the near future. This will probably change in the fall as more dance clubs return to practice at the Ruth Carse.
For your first class, you do not need any equipment. Please come dressed in gym clothes and with a willingness to learn new things! Note that we do everything in bare feet so indoor running shoes are unnecessary.
We have a COVID policy document that all members are expected to follow. Familiarize yourself with these guidelines so that we can all practice in a safe environment.
At each practice all students are expected to sign a COVID Health Check form confirming that they are in good health. In some cases it may be necessary to take a temperature check and we expect everyone to agree it if required.
Currently members are required to wear masks at all times. While there are disposable masks available at each practice, everyone is encouraged to bring their own from home.
If you are sure that you want to continue practicing with the club, you can pick up a registration form at any class. When you have signed and handed it in, we will create an account for you on our website. Please note there is a one-time $75 registration fee and this (along with class fees) will be charged through your online account.
Class fees will be assessed monthly for the near future. These will be charged at the start of the month and students will have two weeks to make the payments and ensure none are in error.
Before COVID, the organization charged students on a semester basis (4-month payments). Although we understand that this is financially difficult for some of our members, the semester payment schedule does make it easier to manage our expenses and the organization will look to return to this schedule at an appropriate time.
